PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
